Tunes For A Rainy Afternoon

UPDATE!

I posted this last year on my Tumblr blog, but since I am still obsessed with this playlist, and since I just discovered 8tracks, I figured I would repost it, share it with my new wordpress followers, and this time include the actual playlist! This playlist has never let me down. It’s a keeper.

———————————————————————————————–

I created this playlist recently as a going away present for a group of friends. These songs have been a huge part of the last few months for me and I wanted to share them with the people I love. I can’t take credit for finding them….they are all songs that were used at some point or another (except for the Jason Robert Brown one which I just happen to love) in the wonderful CW show “Life Unexpected”. Seriously, go to itunes, download them, make a playlist and let them work their magic.

In Honour of World Theatre Day…MURU!

Celebrating World Theatre Day might not be on everyone’s agenda today. However, for a young artist like myself, who is trying to make a living in this crazy business, and still under the naive illusion that I can change the world through the magical world of theatre, it’s still a special day.  Continue reading

I Approve of Taylor Swift

My name is Erika and I am a Taylor Swift fan. This young woman has handled herself with such grace and maturity over the last few years. Most importantly, her music is truthful, usually inspiring, and always trying to send out a good message to all her young fans. Continue reading

Sometimes I just need to reblog. Sometimes other people know exactly what I need….and this is it. These two are beautiful. I believe in them.

A Little Inspiration

Anthony Tommasini skillfully puts into words and music what so many of us just sense and feel when listening to the music of Stephen Sondheim. Both men so good at what they do. Thank you for a little inspiration today.

Weepies Know How It Is

I can’t get enough of The Weepies lately. It’s a problem……but it’s better than most! I recommend their music to EVERYONE! This quote is from the song “Can’t Go Back Now”.

Finishing The Hat – Stephen Sondheim

SONDHEIM CAN CHANGE THE WORLD. REALLY.

As a true Sondheim Junkie I am embarrassed that I only very recently bought this book. However, in my defence I was living out of two suitcases and a truck for the last 6 months and I didn’t think carrying a hard cover book was a practical idea. Regardless, I now feel complete knowing that this book is safely in my arms. I have not been able to put it down.

I have one bold statement to make about Sondheim….and here it is: The music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim can change the world. I swear. If only everybody took the time to really listen and absorb the incredible messages, themes and ideas in his shows….the world would be a better place. On a daily basis something will happen to me, or I will witness something happening and I will think about a sondheim lyric. I swear I am the person I am because of the moral lessons I’ve learned from his shows throughout my life. Am I crazy? Maybe. But I dare you to ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I’m a pretty decent person!

Finishing The Hat

So, do the world a favour and take a listen to Sunday In The Park With George or Into The Woods. These are two of my favorites. Or better yet…buy the DVDs of the staged Broadway productions. Also, if you want to learn more about the genius that is Sondheim and read some early drafts of his lyrics….you must buy this book!

This was taken by one of my dearest friends. There is so much about it I love. It’s original, interesting, beautiful, crafty and obviously I love that it’s a sondheim reference. Dork, I know.

Sunday In The Park With George…one of his best for sure. If you’re an artist of any kind and you don’t love this show….then I don’t know what’s wrong with you!

The World Spins Madly On

BEAUTIFUL

This is beautiful….and the song is And The World Spins Madly On by The Weepies. Bliss.

Today Martha Graham would have been 117 years old. Both this video and the Google graphic today are in her honour.

Schuyler Fisk – Fall Apart Today

I remember Schuyler Fisk from The Babysitter’s Club movie. When that movie came out I didn’t even know she was Sissy Spacek’s daughter, let alone an incredibly talented singer and songwriter. I came across this song during an episode of Life Unexpected and was immediately moved by it. Check out her album The Good Stuff….it’s full of gems.

Sunflow – I Wish You Love

I was so happy to come across this song. Once again, I heard it on the brilliant show Life Unexpected! Rarely have I heard a song that can instantly fill me with such giddiness and joy. The lyrics are so simple yet the message is so deep and huge. A definite ‘wake up in the morning and play this song to start your day off on the right foot’ kind of song.

I Wish You Love from Sunflow on their album Under The Stars. Take a listen.
