Random Inspiration To Get You Through The Day

All things that are inspiring me at the moment. I couldn’t decide what to include but this is a random cluster of my inspirational fuel for the past little while. There is a lot more where this came from….but I hate long blogs ;)

I tend to draw a lot of my creative fuel from books, but I also love quotations and beautiful design. Also, who doesn’t love a good Stephen Sondheim quote or song. The Weepies will never let you down, Bernadette Peters will get anyone through anything…..And Chelsea Handler is just the most honest hilarious woman in the world. Period.

Enjoy and use as needed :)

To Live a Creative Life….

This is one of my favorite quotes about creativity, or ever, actually. This design is also one of the most girly, whimsical and pretty things I’ve seen. Who doesn’t love when words and design collide to create something like this? Brilliant.

Here are some more quotes about creativity to remind us that a creative path is the only path. Use them as needed.

“The chief enemy of creativity is good sense” – Pablo Picasso

“Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try” – Dr. Seuss

“True intelligence operates silently. Stillness is where creativity and solutions to problems are found” – Eckhart Tolle

“Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it” – Dee Hock

“Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” – Walt Disney

“Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up” – Pablo Picasso

“You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not’?” – George Bernard Shaw

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” – Scott Adams

There is no use trying,” said Alice. “One can’t believe impossible things.” “I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was your age, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.” – Lewis Carroll

“If you hear a voice within you say, ‘You cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced.” – Vincent van Gogh

“Have no fear of perfection, you’ll never reach it” – Salvador Dali

“Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts” – Rita Mae Brown

“Curiosity about life in all of its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people” – Leo Burnett

“The world is but a canvas to the imagination.” — Henry David Thoreau

“Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things” – Ray Bradbury

“We will discover the nature of our particular genius when we stop trying to conform to our own and other people’s models, learn to be ourselves and allow our natural channel to open.” — Shakti Gawain

“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will” – George Bernard Shaw

“You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.” — Maya Angelou

“The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas as in escaping from old ones.” — John Maynard Keynes

“From 30,000 feet, creating looks like art. From ground level, it’s a to-do list” – Ben Arment

“Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working” – Pablo Picasso

“You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star” – Nietzsche

“The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources” – Albert Einstein

“To be creative means to be in love with life. You can be creative only if you love life enough that you want to enhance its beauty, you want to bring a little more music to it, a little more poetry to it, a little more dance to it.” – Osho

Jimi Hendrix – Power Of Love

I’m grateful when I find art and words that inspire me. If you take the time you can find astounding things on the lovely internet. I found this piece online yesterday and fell in love with it right away.

It was created by a printing company called Studio on Fire. I will post more about them soon because they are incredible. For now please absorb these words and think about them throughout your day.

Inspiration Blitz – What Are You Waiting For?

I have these on my desktop and read them almost daily. It’s my daily mantra of sorts. I also have a poster in my room that says ‘What Are You Waiting For’. I stare at it as I fall asleep.

The Wise Words Of Dr. Seuss

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is ‘Oh The Places You’ll Go‘. It was given to me by a good friend when we graduated High School. Actually, she had written a short play about it which we performed for our final Drama class project.

I haven’t thought about that in so long! It was a great script. I have such talented friends.

The book has such a positive message and it came at a time when I had no idea of where I was going. I was heading to University, I wasn’t going to know anyone, I wasn’t sure if I had picked the right course of study. So many questions! Dr. Seuss has a way of shifting that fear into excitement for the future….and for that I am grateful! The book is never far from my sight and I try to share it with friends whenever possible.

It’s a great graduation gift for a student who is heading off into the world. It makes the adventure that much more exciting!

The picture below is another reason why we all love Dr. Seuss. His message is universal and one that we should be sharing with kids as early as possible. How incredible to see a small child holding this sign. Good job parents. Good job.

Tea Wisdom For Any Occasion

For me, a cup of tea represents time, quiet and reflection. When I sit down with a cup of tea I know I am giving myself an opportunity to think about my day, reflect on it and rest. After a long day at work, with people, and on my feet, I am so excited to sit down with my tea and think. Sometimes I bring along a good book. Other times I write. I usually like to drink a cup before bed.

The Beauty All Around Us

I tend to be someone who walks down the street and I’m either looking at the ground or I’m daydreaming. Either way, if I’m not careful I miss out on all the beautiful things around me, in my neighbourhood, and right in front of my eyes. I know this about myself so I have to make an effort to pay attention. To focus on what’s is happening in the moment instead of what happened yesterday or what’s on the schedule for tomorrow. I think it’s my type A personality, but that’s no excuse!

The artwork of Kelly Rae Roberts is one of those things that makes me stop in my tracks and relish the moment. There is something about her pieces that grabs my imagination and  focus. I think it’s a combination of the beautiful, detailed art and the words of wisdom that often accompany the pieces. I can look at her work for hours and not feel guilty about it. It reminds me that art has the power to change lives (including the life of the artist herself), evoke great and creative thoughts, and quite simply brighten our darkest days.

Go outside for a walk, look ahead, look up, find the beauty and art all around you, take pictures, and don’t look at the ground even once. You don’t want to miss anything.

Tea Humour, But True!

Amen. If you don’t believe it please go to your local tea shop, perhaps say, a DAVIDsTEA, and try a delicious blend. But please, try something new! No Orange Pekoe for you….if it’s a serious problem I suggest a little something with Lavender or Jasmine. Your problems will be gone in no time!

Everybody’s got the right to be happy,
Don’t be mad, life’s not as bad as it seems,
If you keep your goal in sight, you can climb to any height,
Everybody’s got the right to their dreams.

Stephen Sondheim Forever

Oh, If life were made of moments… Even now and then a bad one… But if life were only moments… Then you’d never know you had one.
