I was watching this video and couldn’t help but wonder what was happening in the 1940’s in other parts of the world. Were they discovering tea for the first time? Were they burning their leaves and wishing there was some video to give them tips on how to make the perfect cup of tea? Think about places like China, Japan or India, they would have probably thought this video was hilarious, even in the 40’s. Let’s think about indigenous populations like the Kichwa people of Ecuador. They probably knew how to steep the perfect pot of tea before anyone!
I think the one thing that has remained the same, through the years and across the continents, is that tea has been a catalyst to bring together families, friends and communities. That will never change.
Enjoy this video. And please, Don’t put your teas near disinfectants! :)
For me, a cup of tea represents time, quiet and reflection. When I sit down with a cup of tea I know I am giving myself an opportunity to think about my day, reflect on it and rest. After a long day at work, with people, and on my feet, I am so excited to sit down with my tea and think. Sometimes I bring along a good book. Other times I write. I usually like to drink a cup before bed.
The Davids have joined forces! Together they will fight environmental injustices everywhere!
It was announced earlier this week that DAVIDsTEA, the amazing Tea company I work for, has formed a partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation. What does this mean, you ask? Well, it means that now a portion of DAVIDsTEA profits will go to the foundation, and in return the David Suzuki Foundation will teach DAVIDsTEA how to be as environmentally aware as possible! Since the company began they have tried to do as much as possible in an earth friendly way, but there is always room to do better! I could not be more excited to be a part of this union and try to help the earth one tea-cup at a time.
Amen. If you don’t believe it please go to your local tea shop, perhaps say, a DAVIDsTEA, and try a delicious blend. But please, try something new! No Orange Pekoe for you….if it’s a serious problem I suggest a little something with Lavender or Jasmine. Your problems will be gone in no time!
DAVIDsTEA store location on Bleeker St. in NYC. Stunning.
I have always been a sucker for beautiful design. If you’ve packaged it beautifully, if the book cover is gorgeous, if the storefront catches my eye….I will probably drop the cash. This has sometimes led me to read terrible books, or waste my time in a store that overcharged for poorly made clothes, or bought something that did not resemble the picture on the packaging at all! I have been disappointed in the past.
That is why I am always so pleasantly surprised by DAVIDsTEA. The minute I first walked into a store I connected with the vibe, the look, and the lovely people behind the counter. Then I tried the teas. Beautiful, lovely packaging, curious and original names….and all of them delicious.
A video montage of our adventures in Ecuador. I still can’t believe I was there, and especially that I was there with some amazing people, and that I met such amazing people. RUNA and the Kichwa people embraced us with open arms and this video is a thank you to them for their generosity and spirit.
It’s so inspiring to be part of a generation that is trying to do so much good, reverse some bad collective decisions….and use their creativity and experiences for the better.
RUNA – Fully living Human Beings. This is what the indigenous Kichwa farmers of the Ecuadorian Amazon call themselves. These farmers live by the ancient morals, traditions and legends that have been passed down by their ancestors. They gather around a communal fire at dawn every morning and drink Guayusa from handmade gourds to share their dreams, music and myths.
Guayusa – a holly tree that produces vibrant large green leaves that are caffeinated and have numerous other health benefits. Guayusa is only found in Ecuador and northern Peru and Colombia, and has been a large part of Kichwa culture for centuries.
I recently came back from a week long trip to the jungles of Ecuador. I was there as a guest of Fundacion Runa, the non-profit arm of RUNA, a beverage company that is introducing Guayusa to the world. I immediately fell in love with the organization and began to think of ways that I could help them. It was an invaluable experience and feeling to realize that as consumers in the US and CANADA we are directly helping the Kichwa people build better lives for themselves.
I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a Guayusa Ambassador for DAVIDsTEA. Here is a little teaser of what our week was like in the Amazonian Jungles of Ecuador. We could not have had a better time. We learned so much and we are excited to be home and spread the message of the Kichwa people and the Guayusa plant.
I hope to share more stories and information in the coming weeks. It was a trip of a lifetime.
David’s Tea is taking a stand for Haiti. The fabulous tea company and a Montreal based organization called Kanpe, have teamed up to create a delicious tea infused with Mango, Hibiscus, Cinnamon and other wonderful fruits found in Haiti. All proceeds from the tea will go to ending the cycle of porverty in Haiti by encouraging financial independence. Kanpe means “to stand-up” in Hatian Creole and my hat goes off to David’s Tea and Kanpe for doing just that. To learn more about Kanpe please visitwww.kanpe.org. To purchase some of this delicious tea head to your nearest David’s Tea or visit www.davidstea.com
I honestly didn’t realize I was a tea person until a friend introduced me to David’s Tea. I’m not sure if I fell in love with the tea first or the tea experience. Regardless, I now love both! Every David’s Tea store is a thing of beauty. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a little cup of their Tea Of The Day and the aroma of some of the most delicious loose leaf teas you will ever drink….or smell. Most people who think they just want to pop in to grab a cup end up wanting to stick around and enjoy the people and the atmosphere. Oh, and I haven’t even started talking about the teas! With names like Read My Lips, Luscious Watermelon, and The Skinny you are immediately intrigued. David’s tea has done such an incredible job at making tea drinking fun, healthy and delicious! Like in fashion, David’s Tea has a new tea collection every season. This summer’s collection looks delicious…and I can’t wait to sit on my porch and try them all iced! It’s definitely one of my little pleasures in life and without fail puts a smile on my face. Right now they only have locations in Canada….but I’m sure in no time they will branch out to the US where I am sure it will also be a huge success. Oh, and did I mention that the Bloor West Village location is my favorite and has the best Ginger Cookies in the world? Well, they do.
