Seattle Loves Books

I have always heard amazing things about Seattle, but their public library might be the greatest thing about the city. My friend sent me this video months ago and I think I might be partially responsible for the thousands upon thousands of views it has gotten. Curiously, every time I watch it I’m at the edge of my seat wondering if it will actually work! Clearly I’m very, very simple ;)

The massive domino chain was created to celebrate the launch of the 2013 Summer Reading Program and could possibly have set a world record!

I’ve decided that next to reading them the next best use of books is this. Enjoy.

Tea In The 1940’s

I guess I’m on a tea kick today!

I was watching this video and couldn’t help but wonder what was happening in the 1940’s in other parts of the world. Were they discovering tea for the first time? Were they burning their leaves and wishing there was some video to give them tips on how to make the perfect cup of tea? Think about places like China, Japan or India, they would have probably thought this video was hilarious, even in the 40’s. Let’s think about indigenous populations like the Kichwa people of Ecuador. They probably knew how to steep the perfect pot of tea  before anyone!

I think the one thing that has remained the same, through the years and across the continents, is that tea has been a catalyst to bring together families, friends and communities. That will never change.

Enjoy this video. And please, Don’t put your teas near disinfectants! :)

Keep Calm And Carry On – True Story

Have you ever wondered about the origins of the ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ poster? I had no idea it had such an interesting history. Today we know it from countless products such as journals, t-shirts, bags, candles, mouse pads and even bed sheets! We’ve modified the text countless ways to serve our own purposes. For example, ‘Keep Calm and Drink Tea’. However, the poster was created to boost morale during WWII…and since then it’s been on quite a journey.

My lovely friend Karen introduced me to this video. This is one of the things I love about the
world-wide web and having a blog. Once people start to get to know me and what I like they send me amazing things like this!

To learn more about the history of the poster make sure to check out the website here!

Keep Calm a Carry On….and send me some videos! ;)

Wise Beyond Her Years, Tavi Gevinson Is No Rookie

When I was 15 I spent most of my time studying, playing soccer, singing and hanging out with my friends at the mall. I was a studious, curious teen with big dreams and ambitions to make a difference, but I saw those dreams being fulfilled in the future. When I grew up. I’ve always lived my life in order. I thought, I’ll be a kid, I’ll be a teen, I’ll go to school, I’ll grow up, I’ll get a job, and then that job will make a difference. What my dreams were aren’t the point. The point is I don’t think I realized I could make a difference in the world until I grew up.

I did dream about acting and performing as a kid. I knew I could do that at ANY age. But, the idea of being taken seriously or making a difference always seemed like something “grown ups” did. Now that I’m a certain age I’m happy with who I am, what I’m doing and how I live in the world. However, I’m also happy and excited to see how young people are taking a lead and taking charge of their dreams and issues that need to be tackled in the world.

This Is Your LIFE.

Recognize this incredible poster of powerful words? Do you remember seeing it all over your news feed on Facebook? Well I finally learnt where it came from and I am so excited at my discovery!

Holstee is a company with a conscience. It’s what can happen when people sit down for a second, stop moving, and really think about what they want out of life and for the world. That’s what Mike, Dave and their cousin Fabian did a few years ago and what came out of it was the Holstee Manifesto. The poster you see above, and the message that’s being heard all over the world. Thankfully.

Marcel The Shell Is Now A Book. Brilliant.

The first time I saw the Marcel The Shell video I watched it 10 times in a row. I don’t know how but I fell in love with a shell named Marcel. We all fell in love with him.

He is the creation of Jenny Slate (voice), and Dean Fleischer -Camp. The two creative individuals have now turned the adorable shell into a children’s book that can actually be enjoyed by all ages! I could not have been more excited when I saw the book at my local bookstore today!

Check out the original short film below, and check out the website for the book which can be found here. You can also hear the book being read aloud by Marcel himself.

This is the perfect gift for any child or anyone with a creative spirit. It’s always so inspiring when artists create beautiful, thoughtful and positive work. Brava!

DAVIDsTEA In The Field: Ecuador Edition

I was fortunate enough to be chosen as a Guayusa Ambassador for DAVIDsTEA. Here is a little teaser of what our week was like in the Amazonian Jungles of Ecuador. We could not have had a better time. We learned so much and we are excited to be home and spread the message of the Kichwa people and the Guayusa plant.

I hope to share more stories and information in the coming weeks. It was a trip of a lifetime.

In the meantime, for more information and updates please check out www.davidstea.com and www.runa.org.

The World Spins Madly On

Video

BEAUTIFUL

This is beautiful….and the song is And The World Spins Madly On by The Weepies. Bliss.

Today Martha Graham would have been 117 years old. Both this video and the Google graphic today are in her honour.

Animated by Ron Woodward (the same guy that animated today’s amazing Google graphic)
